Online Hot Tapping & Plugging – Engineering Introduction
Plant debottlenecking and upgrading may involve a lot of hot work and new tie-ins on existing facilities. To facilitate safe construction of new tie-ins or replace old pipelines, conventionally the existing system will needs to be shutdown and decommission to allow safe hot work. Production loss and inventory loss will incur a large cost for a simple modification. Hot tapping and line plugging technique would facilitate construction of new hot tap or replace pipelines while allowing continue production and zero inventory loss.

Add bypass without stopping the pipeline
Replace or add new taps or pipelines without stopping or emptying lines

Online Hot Tapping & Line Plugging – Operation Diagram
1. Weld the tee-pack, tee by-pass and balance pipe on the pipeline.
2. Install proper splint valves or standard valves fitting for based on pressure levels.
3. Install hot tapping machines and open bypass hole.
4. Install bypass pipelines to make flowing medium flow through, open balance holes and plugging holes.
8. Install blind plates on the tee.
7. After plugging, remove plugging joint, shut the flange of tee and dismantled the temporary valve.
6. After blocking the pipeline, cut off the leak piece and blind plates, then replace with new pipelines valves.
5. Install plugging machines, block both upper and lower sides to ensure the medium flow through the bypass pipelines.
